El ex-jugador y ahora técnico de 39 años Matías Almeyda vuelve a la Segunda División del Fútbol Argentino.
Luego de su hazaña logrando el ascenso de River Plate a la máxima categoría, espera ahora repetir este logro nuevamente, esta vez con Banfield.
Matías Almeyda llega en remplazo de Daniel Garnero, quien fue destituido debido a los recientes malos resultados que no favorecen los intereses del club verde.
A su llegada al “Taladro” ha dejado en claro sus objetivos y como espera que se comporte el plantel, tanto en lo que respecta a jugadores como la parte dirigencial.
"Elegí a Banfield pese a que tenía otras ofertas de trabajo, porque tenía ganas de volver a dirigir. Me pareció un proyecto ambicioso porque se quiere crecer en los futbolístico e institucional".
"Me parece que hay un buen plantel y lo iré conociendo mejor día a día. Pese a lo difícil que está la situación, encararemos lo que resta del campeonato con esperanza y buscaremos el ascenso. De no conseguirlo, igualmente nos va a servir para formar la base para la próxima temporada". Ha expresado Matías en su rueda de prensa de presentación.
Para Almeyda lo más importante será la búsqueda del ascenso, algo que puede ser probable ya que Banfield actualmente se ubica 6to. con 40 puntos a tan solo 10 puntos del tercer lugar, casilla que le alcanzaría para subir a la Primera División.
El nuevo Director Técnico del club del sur de Argentina contara en su cuerpo técnico con Gabriel Amato y Ariel Holán como ayudantes de campo acompañados de Alejandro Kohan y Gaudio Bonini como preparadores físicos.
